Joan Floura

A graduate of North Dakota State University with a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture, Joan is a registered landscape architect with over 18 years in client relations, design, and project management. Joan has designed healing gardens, labyrinths, playgrounds, rooftop gardens, and streetscapes throughout Maryland and Washington D.C.

“One reason that cities like Baltimore and Washington are coming back as desirable places to live is because they are coming back greener. That doesn’t mean mayors and city councils are adding large parks or annexing suburbs. It’s often simply a new pocket park here, a meditative garden there, a green roof up here. FTLA has the skill and experience to reinvigorate urban spaces with ecologically friendly solutions.”

Favorite Plant: Dwarf Fothergilla (Fothergilla gardenia). To me this plant is one of the first signs of spring with its delicate, fragrant bottle shaped flower appearing in April. The form, leave shape and leaf color make it a lovely backdrop in any summer garden, and the fall color is superior.» Click here to email Joan Floura
